Mahindra has unveiled its new three-row SUV, the Mahindra XUV700, in India. The Mahindra XUV700 has been a long time coming and now sits at the top of the Mahindra model line. The SUV will be available in five or seven-seater options but isn't a direct replacement for the XUV500. Bookings for the Mahindra XUV500 have begun with this reveal and can be made online or at a Mahindra dealership.

2021 Mahindra XUV700 engine, gearbox

The XUV700 will be offered with two engine options, the same 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel and the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol from the Thar. However, the engines have been turned up to become the most powerful engine options in this segment on the top AX variants. The diesel puts out 185PS and makes 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual and 450 Nm with the 6-speed automatic. The petrol motor makes 200PS and 380 Nm paired with both gearboxes. The petrol doesn't get drive modes, which are reserved for the diesel. There is also an AWD option available and Mahindra claims the XUV700 can do 0 to 60 kmph in under 5s. In the more basic MX spec, the petrol remains unchanged but the diesel is detuned to 155PS and 360 Nm although only manual gearboxes are on offer.

2021 Mahindra XUV700 MX features

The Mahindra XUV700 will be available in two product lines, MX and AX. This is similar to the strategy the firm followed with the Thar, and in this case, the MX is a bare-bones entry-spec model for those on a tighter budget or uninterested in the many features on offer. As stated, the MX version will get only manual gearboxes and a detuned diesel engine. Notable features in this variant are an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with only Android Auto, a 7-inch instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, powered outer mirrors with turn indicators, smart door handles, LEd taillamps and 17-inch steel wheels.

2021 Mahindra XUV700 AX features

The AX line is the better equipped of the two lines to be offered on the XUV700. This will be offered in three trims all of which get some level of the tech and connectivity highlights. This version can be had with auto gearboxes, in 5 and 7 seater form as well as AWD if optioned. The AX3 trim starts with the twin 10.25-inch screens with wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, the AdrenoX suite of over 60 connected-car features, Alexa integration for voice commands, six speakers, LED DRLs, front fog lamps and 17-inch steel wheels.

The next AX5 trim comes with the panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, curtain airbags, LED headlamps, sequential turn indicators and cornering lamps. Movung to the top AX7 variant brings with it the full suite of ADAS functions that includes drive fatigue alert, adaptive cruise control with braking and the lane-keeping function. Other features here are the air purifier, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seats with 6-way power adjustment, leather steering wheel and gear-lever, side airbags and 18-inch alloy wheels .

The 12-speaker Sony sound system, flush door handles, 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, electronic parking brake and wireless charging will be available optional via a series of option pack which will be revealed at a later date.

2021 Mahindra XUV700 exterior

The Mahindra XUV700 takes from where the last XUV500 left off with many of the design themes carrying over to the new 7-seater. So there is a similar squarish grille with the vertical chrome highlights and an angular LED headlamp unit with a more exaggerated interpretation of the fanged extensions from the facelifted XUV500. The bodywork similarly flows with the prominent curves, including the distinct bulged bodywork below the window line, while the kink at the C-pillar continues here.

The flush-fitted door handles are segment-first as well as the 18-inch alloy wheels on the top trims. At the rear, the large angular theme for the lamps continues, again fully LED while the bulged mid-section adds a touch of contrast to the rear. There's some subtle silver cladding here too.

2021 Mahindra XUV700 interior

The big talking point on the inside of the Mahindra XUV700 is the floating twin-screen layout quite reminiscent of a modern Mercedes. The general layout of the cabin shows a wide central tunnel and a modern layered dashboard with what looks like significant patches of soft-touch materials and differing textures on the horizontally segmented surfaces as well as a new steering wheel design. Unlike earlier the layout seems quite conventional with straightforward climate controls below the low-set horizontal central air vents.

2021 Mahindra XUV700 expected launch date, price

The Mahindra XUV700 will compete with the likes of the Tata Safari, MG Hector and the Hyundai Alcazar. The new SUV will be manufactured at Mahindra's Chakan facility. The XUV700 should be priced between Rs 15 to 23 lakh, ex-showroom.
