Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport get P300e PHEV powertrain internationally
Jaguar Land Rover has launched a new PHEV powertrain for its smallest SUVs, the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. This engine option has been termed the P300e.
This P300e unit pairs a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol making 200PS with a 109PS electric motor fitted to the rear axle. This makes for a combined output of 309PS and 540 Nm. The system is paired to the ZF eight-speed auto while the electric motor draws power from a 15 kWh battery pack.
The battery can be from empty to 80 per cent in 30 minutes using a 32kW DC public fast charger or in just under 1.5 hours using a 7kW AC wallbox. All-electric range is 66 km for the Evoque and 62 km for the slightly heavier Discovery Sport. Both cars are based on JLR's new Premium Transverse Architecture, which was designed specifically to accommodate electrified powertrains. The battery pack sits under the rear seats of the SUVs.
Performance levels are quite promising given the high outputs. The Evoque P300e can do 0 to 100 kmph in 6.4s while the PHEV Discovery Sport does this in 6.6s. The top-speeds haven't been disclosed but both cars can reach 135 kmph on electric power alone. This hasn't come at the cost of efficiency or emissions. The Evoque emits 32g/km of CO2 and can do 71.4 kmpl as per the WLTP cycle. These figures drop slightly to 36 g/km and 62.5 kmpl for the Discovery Sport.
The Evoque P300e and Discovery Sport P300e will be available across the line-up in the S, SE and HSE trims, in both standard and R-Dynamic style packages. It is not clear if JLR will bring these engine options to India, but given the high premium that the hybrid powertrain is expected to demand, it seems unlikely.
